Summer is the perfect season for getting together with family and friends to enjoy a meal outdoors. As a family-owned vineyard, Reddy Vineyards understands the joy of combining great food with exceptional wines. After speaking with CEO, Akhil Reddy, and trying labels at my own cookouts, here are some of our favorite wine pairings. Be sure to note the cooking tips and wine facts to impress at your next dinner party!
Wine and Summertime Grilling Pairings:
- Grilled Burgers: Cabernet Sauvignon
The bold flavors of the 2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon complements, and enhances, the rich and juicy taste of a burger. The tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon help cut through the fat and enhance the overall dining experience.
- Grilled Chicken or Fish: Viognier Marsanne Roussanne
The crisp acidity and citrus notes of the 2019 VMR White Blend beautifully complement the flavors of grilled chicken or fish. This white wine provides a refreshing contrast and bring out the natural flavors of the grilled proteins.
- BBQ Ribs: Malbec or Rosé
The smoky and savory flavors of BBQ ribs call for a medium-bodied red like the 2018 M3 Red Blend. If you want to surprise and delight your guests, especially if your ribs have a spicy kick, reach for the 2019 Signature Dry Rosé. Both options offer a balance that enhances the rich flavors of the ribs.
- Fresh Salad and Grilled Vegetables: Sauvignon Blanc
Light and crips wines like the 2022 Petals & Clay Sauvignon Blanc are perfect companions for fresh salads and grilled vegetables. Their fruity and floral notes harmonize with the vibrant flavors of summer produce, providing a delightful and refreshing pairing.

Cooking Tips for the Perfect Family Cookout
- Marinade with Wine- Use wine as a base for marinades to add depth and complexity to your grilled meats. Stick with the age-old rule of red wines with red meat and white wines with poultry & seafood.
- Chill ALL Your Wine- Before your guests arrive, decide on which wines you’ll be opening and what the best temperature is for each. While most know to chill whites and roses, reds are also meant to be slightly chilled for enhanced flavor!
- Experiment with Wine Spritzers- Create a refreshing opening cocktail for your guests by combining your favorite wine with sparkling water and a splash of fruit juice. It is a great way to enjoy a lighter and refreshing beverage during hot summer days- especially here in Texas!
